On Thursday 2nd November, pupils cross the school took part in a Maths Problem Solving afternoon. In Upper School, pupils tried to solve many mathematical challenges to give them clues to allow them to discover Who did it? All the pupils worked extremely well with a partner from another class.
Green Trees Award
Continuing with the Green Trees Award scheme children from upper school created some pieces of artwork completely from natural materials they found around the school grounds.
100% Attendance Award
This year we have teamed up with Vision for Education to promote good attendance through out school. They will be sponsoring an award scheme for those children with 100% attendance. Each half term the children with 100% attendance are entered into a prize draw. This term the winner was Leah S from Year 3 and was awarded a £5 voucher for Argos. Many thanks to Sophie from Vision for Education who came to present Leah with her award and well done to all children who also had 100% attendance. Continue with the good work as we look forward to the rest of the year.
Halloween lunch
Leadgate Primary School celebrated Halloween at lunch time. At the Upper School, our cooks dressed up especially for the occasion and the children loved their Halloween display.
E-Safety Warning
Recent E-Safety advice has noted that the online game Roblox is not suitable for anyone aged under 12 as it has an unmonitored chat option making grooming a high possibility along with users being able to remain anonymous.
Please continue to remain aware of what your child is doing online and know who to talk to if they are uncomfortable with anything they find online.
Book Fair
Following the huge success of last year’s Book Fair we held a Book Fair in school on the Lower Site in the library from Monday 9th October until Friday 13th October.
It was a brilliant opportunity to purchase a wide range of books to share and enjoy at home whilst school could earn free books and resources. Reading is a valuable and rewarding aspect of children’s learning and consequently opens the door to a world of knowledge.
Thank you for your on-going support. We do hope everyone enjoyed the Book Fair again.
Mini Police get an insight into police training
On Monday 2nd October, 9 of our Mini Police visited the PSU site in Meadowfield, to get an insight into some of the training that police officers undergo during their training. Shown around by Craig, they were shown some of the ways that officers enter locked properties and where they brush up on their fingerprint collecting skills. Children explored the staged rooms and cells asking plenty of questions along the way. Finally, the mini police were able to take part in their own version of training, shadowing those officers who were being put to the test in how to deal with incidents on the street during a riot. Demonstrating that they could follow the calls given by the trainer, it’s safe to say the real officers were given a run for their money by Leadgate Mini Police. An enormous thanks to all those who gave up their time to explain and demonstrate different training techniques. All of the children were extremely enthusiastic about their visit and couldn’t wait to tell the remaining mini police about their morning.
Councillor Watts Stelling retires as Chair of Governors
It is with deepest regret and great sadness that we announce to the whole school that Councillor Watts Stelling has retired his post as Chair of Governors at the Primary School.
Since joining the Junior School Governors in December 2006 and the Infant School Governors in November 2004, Cllr Stelling has given his commitment and support to the whole school community, families, children, staff, other Governors, myself and all the previous head teachers before me. His work over all this time has continued to improve the quality of education for all our children.
His work will be continued by the school governing body and I know you will join me in thanking him for his unwavering service and dedication. We wish him the very best as he continues in his role as our local Councillor.
Upper school debates
Upper school had a visit from Gillian Bell who is an outreach worker for Parliament’ Education Service. She raised the children’s awareness of the work of Parliament and how debating and decision making is carried out by the House of Commons and House of Lords.
Garden Winners
A massive congratulations to Miss Kirsty and the children of Year 2 who successfully entered the north east horticultural society show and won first prize for their basket of veg, miniature garden and largest sunflower head. This has raised additional funds for the school budget.
