Residential Experiences
At Leadgate Primary School, we believe that residential visits provide some of the most valuable and memorable learning experiences for children. As part of our commitment to providing a rich and ambitious curriculum, we are continuing to develop residential opportunities across Key Stage 2, ensuring that pupils have the chance to challenge themselves, develop new skills and create lasting memories with their friends.
Residential visits offer children experiences that extend beyond the classroom and support their personal development in a unique way. Through a variety of outdoor, adventurous and team-building activities, pupils are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone, develop resilience and build confidence in their own abilities.

Developing Opportunities Across Key Stage 2
We are committed to expanding our residential offer across Key Stage 2 so that pupils can access a range of experiences as they progress through school. By providing age-appropriate opportunities throughout KS2, children are able to gradually develop confidence, independence and outdoor learning skills before moving on to more challenging experiences in the upper years.
Our residential programme continues to grow and aims to provide pupils with exciting opportunities that complement our curriculum and enrichment offer.
Adventure, Challenge and Growth
Residential visits may include activities such as:
- Canoeing and water-based activities.
- Climbing and adventurous challenges.
- Team-building experiences.
- Orienteering and problem-solving tasks.
- Environmental and outdoor learning.
- Bushcraft and survival skills.
- Exploring local and wider areas of the North East.

These experiences help children develop perseverance, courage and a positive attitude towards challenge while encouraging them to work collaboratively and support one another.

Year 6 Robinwood Residential – What an Adventure!
Our Year 6 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed their Robinwood Residential, and what a brilliant adventure it was! Over the course of the trip, the children embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and determination, showing incredible teamwork and resilience.
Despite some wet and windy weather, spirits remained high, and the smiles never faded! From climbing to problem-solving and canoeing, every activity was tackled with energy and excitement. It was wonderful to see the children supporting each other and growing in confidence throughout the experience.
A huge thank you to the staff who accompanied the trip and to our amazing Year 6 pupils for making this such a memorable event. We are so proud of you all!
It was a real pleasure to meet and work with the staff and pupils from Leadgate Primary School during their trip to Robinwood. From the moment they arrived, the children brought fantastic energy, positivity, and a real willingness to challenge themselves. It was especially lovely to see the strong rapport that developed between the groups and their leaders, Princess Jonny and Doug, with plenty of encouragement, teamwork, and laughter along the way. The pupils were a credit to their school and made the experience enjoyable for everyone involved
It was wonderful working with the teachers and pupils from Leadgate Primary School. The children gave 100% to every activity, supporting one another and showing great determination throughout the residential. Even the dreaded piranha pool was no match for their resilience, teamwork, and positive attitude! Despite some challenging weather conditions, their enthusiasm never faded. The pupils represented Leadgate superbly and should be extremely proud of everything they achieved over the three days.
