Forest School

At Leadgate Primary School, our Forest School programme provides an inspiring opportunity for children to learn beyond the classroom, combining adventure, exploration and education in a natural outdoor environment. All classes take part in Forest School sessions throughout the year, ensuring every child benefits from regular outdoor learning experiences.

Forest School is carefully linked to our curriculum and enhances learning across a range of subjects, including science, geography and PSHE. Through practical, hands-on activities, children are encouraged to investigate, problem-solve, explore and work collaboratively, helping them make meaningful connections between classroom learning and the world around them.

Sessions are designed to develop confidence, independence, resilience and creativity through achievable challenges and real-life experiences. Whether building shelters, exploring habitats, learning about nature or working together on team challenges, pupils develop valuable life skills alongside their academic learning.

Forest School also supports children’s emotional wellbeing by providing opportunities to learn in a calm and nurturing environment. Time spent outdoors helps children develop self-confidence, improve concentration and build positive relationships with their peers and adults.

Through Forest School, our pupils develop a lifelong appreciation of the natural world while gaining the skills, confidence and resilience they need to thrive both academically and personally
