Thank you to everyone that supported the school’s Christmas Fayre this year. We raised a very impressive £774.38. A big thank you to all the children across classes 3 to 6 who also made a fantastic range of products to sale. The money will be added to school funds and help support ongoing activities and trip etc.
Those who came to Fayre will also have seen this years Christmas hall Display which has an International theme and links with this years International Christmas Play.
Last Friday one of our pupils took part in a fantastic opportunity to be part of an event to mark the end of the 80 day Great Exhibition of the North. As part of this he took part in an exercise, with other school children, looking at the Hyperloop and how it worked at the Architects practice where his dad works.
He and others then got the opportunity to talk about this with Prince William. A truly fantastic experience.
You can see him wearing his school badge with pride and we are very proud to see him hard at work even in the presence of royalty! Well done!
On Wednesday the children from Years 1 & 2 joined the KS2 children for an afternoon of games and snacks.
Following a review of our provision and improvement in Basic Skills our school has successfully been awarded Basic Skills Quality Mark for the seventh time. This award recognises the improvement in provision, practice and performance in respect of the ‘basic skills’ of Literacy and Numeracy. We are very proud to see the hard work of staff and children recognised once more. Well done everyone!
The winner of the 100% attendance award this year was Kiera. Many thanks to Sophie from Vision for Education who came to present Kiera with her award and well done to all children who also had 100% attendance. Continue with the good work as we look forward to next year.
Coding club at Leadgate Primary School has been successfully running for the last two years across the age groups of year 5 and 6 pupils (aged 9-11) with an average of 10 pupils per term. Initially we focussed on Scratch projects – Lost in Space, Haunted House, Boat Race, Chat Bot, Paintbox and Snowball fight. We then progressed onto using the Microbits, projects included Mood faces and Fortune Teller. For those confident pupils they were challenged to debug a program using Purple Mash and to use Python – Rock, paper, scissors. Continuing to develop pupil’s skills, inventor kits were then introduced. The pupils independently worked through a series of interesting but challenging projects from the booklet. Our most experienced coding club members explored HTML programs including Happy Birthday Cards and a Wanted Poster. After much perseverance by our coding club parent volunteer, we have finally managed to program and explore the Robot.
Our parent volunteer, who works at SAGE Software, has fully supported and been an invaluable team member throughout coding club. Our volunteer helps in the planning process and provides us with many resources including a stand-alone laptop for use with the Robot.
The pupils are far more confident in using coding through Scratch and support other pupil within their classes during computing lessons. They particularly enjoyed the Inventor Kits as it was more technical and seemed to be more practical programming. I feel that coding club has introduced our pupils to basic HTML and Python and have begun to write code for Web Pages. Throughout these projects they have developed resilience and problems solving skills, which are valuable skills they are developing in readiness for Secondary School and beyond.

Pupils are noticeably more confident and resilient in a variety of lesson where problem solving and following a clear set of instructions is required. They offer support being Peer mentors throughout computing sessions within their own year group as well as for younger pupils in school.

Last week was a very important time for our year 6 class as they were all sitting their SATs. They all put in a lot of effort to these tests throughout the week and so decided to celebrate with a class party after completing their final test of the week.
