Science

At Leadgate Primary, we aim to inspire every pupil to develop a lifelong love of Science. By harnessing their natural curiosity about the world around them, we create opportunities for awe, wonder, and discovery. Our Science curriculum, which inludes the National Curriculum, is ambitious for all pupils. We provide a knowledge‑rich foundation that equips children with the scientific vocabulary, concepts and understanding they need to explore, investigate and discuss scientific ideas with confidence.

We want children to develop a wide range of transferable skills that they can use in school, at home and in their future education. Through engaging lessons, real‑world examples and intriguing questions, we share our passion for Science and help pupils understand its importance in everyday life and the wider world.

Through a carefully planned and progressive curriculum our pupils will:

  • Develop secure scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding in biology, chemistry and physics.
  • Understand the nature, processes and methods of Science through meaningful enquiry and hands‑on investigation.
  • Are equipped with the scientific knowledge needed to understand the uses and implications of Science today and in the future.
  • Learn about the world in ways that encourage them to become caring, respectful individuals who value living things and the environment.
  • Gain skills and understanding that help them make sense of how things work in a rapidly changing world.
  • Develop an enquiring mind and a scientific approach to problem‑solving.
  • Appreciate how Science influences people, communities and the environment.
  • Communicate their scientific ideas clearly through accurate language, diagrams, charts, tables and the use of technology.
  • Work systematically, evaluate evidence and consider whether tests or comparisons are fair.
  • Build curiosity, resilience and open‑mindedness when investigating scientific questions.
  • Apply relevant mathematical skills to support scientific enquiry.
  • Develop a wide repertoire of scientific vocabulary to discuss, question and explain their ideas.
  • Build transferable enquiry skills that will support their future education and employment.
