Following the huge success of last year’s Book Fair we held a Book Fair in school on the Lower Site in the library from Monday 9th October until Friday 13th October.

It was a brilliant opportunity to purchase a wide range of books to share and enjoy at home whilst school could earn free books and resources. Reading is a valuable and rewarding aspect of children’s learning and consequently opens the door to a world of knowledge. 

Thank you for your on-going support. We do hope everyone enjoyed the Book Fair again. 

On Monday 2nd October, 9 of our Mini Police visited the PSU site in Meadowfield, to get an insight into some of the training that police officers undergo during their training. Shown around by Craig, they were shown some of the ways that officers enter locked properties and where they brush up on their fingerprint collecting skills. Children explored the staged rooms and cells asking plenty of questions along the way. Finally, the mini police were able to take part in their own version of training, shadowing those officers who were being put to the test in how to deal with incidents on the street during a riot. Demonstrating that they could follow the calls given by the trainer, it’s safe to say the real officers were given a run for their money by Leadgate Mini Police. An enormous thanks to all those who gave up their time to explain and demonstrate different training techniques. All of the children were extremely enthusiastic about their visit and couldn’t wait to tell the remaining mini police about their morning. 

It is with deepest regret and great sadness that we announce to the whole school that Councillor Watts Stelling has retired his post as Chair of Governors at the Primary School.

Since joining the Junior School Governors in December 2006 and the Infant School Governors in November 2004, Cllr Stelling has given his commitment and support to the whole school community, families, children, staff, other Governors, myself and all the previous head teachers before me. His work over all this time has continued to improve the quality of education for all our children.

His work will be continued by the school governing body and I know you will join me in thanking him for his unwavering service and dedication. We wish him the very best as he continues in his role as our local Councillor.

Upper school had a visit from Gillian Bell who is an outreach worker for Parliament’ Education Service. She raised the children’s awareness of the work of Parliament and how debating and decision making is carried out by the House of Commons and House of Lords.

A massive congratulations to Miss Kirsty and the children of Year 2 who successfully entered the north east horticultural society show and won first prize for their basket of veg, miniature garden and largest sunflower head. This has raised additional funds for the school budget.

With the start of every new year comes the opportunity to start something new and this Year our New Year 6 children have started with a mission to get everyone active. They have taken on the responsibility of setting up, leading and running a new club – ‘The Sports Crew’ which they will run every lunchtime, promoting keeping active and having fun at the same time.

Congratulations to the whole school and especially the work of the Eco Group and Mrs Cooper who, having completed their final task / activity, have been award Silver Green Trees School award for their work completing environmental projects and encouraging outdoor learning. Well Done!

Congratulations to everyone on their continued hard work in developing and promoting sports and games across the school. We have just been awarded Sainsbury’s School Games Silver Mark 2016 2017 for our achievements and the achievements of all our little sportsmen and women. Our commitment to sport and games across the school will continue to be developed with a special thanks to Mr Baker for all his effort, organisation and dedication to pupil sport.

Hannabiell and Midnight Blue performed on both school sites. We listened to a saxophone, trombone, tuba, guitar, electric guitar and drums, and joined in the dancing.
